Job Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology is looking for a Radiation Therapist to administer doses of radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist for the treatment of disease, utilizing ionizing radiation producing equipment. Operate in a safe and patient focused manner to provide high quality patient care. Work on a highly functional, large team at Michigan Medicine main campus with a requirement for flexibility within your team and dependent on clinic needs. Proficiency in delivering external beam radiation therapy treatments to cancer patients, as well as experience working on a CT simulator.


Responsibilities

* Assist in simulation procedures and preform patient treatment education and training for EBRT
* Deliver EBRT treatments using Varian linear accelerators ranging in complexity from standard 3D treatments to SBRT and SRS
* Help to maintain all equipment in a safe and satisfactory working order, reporting all replacement needs to the Chief or Assistant Therapist
* Assist in variance tracking and the reporting of near misses and aid in the root cause analysis to introduce process improvement in an effort to avoid reoccurrence
* Flexibility and willingness to assist with coverage where and when the team requires the help
* Help to identify areas of operational inefficiency and participate in the implementation of department growth initiatives
* Participate in the development of the clinical policies and procedures pertinent to the success of the department and safety of the patient
* Serve as a resource to patients and other healthcare providers at Michigan Medicine
* Provide support and assistance in RTT student teaching, including guiding students in clinical tasks, reinforcing course objectives and promoting a positive learning environment.


Required Qualifications

* Graduation from high school; graduation from an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
* Registration or registry-eligible in radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
* This classification requires Primary Source Verification

* Competent and proficient performing all procedures relating to patient treatment including: OBI,CBCT,SDX, and use of Aria software
* Must be a team player who is able to handle themselves in a professional manner and work well within a large, diverse team

* Responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or values to accomplish goals and solve problems
* Builds credibility as a representative by demonstrating personal commitment and sharing information

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.


Work Schedule

Five days, 40 hours per week. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the clinic


Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
