Land Consultant at WSP
Join our team as a Land Consultant, working on innovative water and infrastructure projects worldwide.
Job Description
In this role you will conduct land referencing, engage landowners, and manage land acquisition for large‑scale infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with health and safety and legal requirements.
Responsibilities
* Perform land referencing activities, including online land registry searches, desktop research, questionnaire analysis, and archival investigations to identify legal land interests and rights.
* Consult with landowners to confirm land and land‑ownership details and secure access for surveys.
* Explain proposed schemes to landowners, discuss impacts, and document consultation notes in our database.
* Liaise with land agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, stakeholders, contractors, and clients.
* Adhere to WSP H&S procedures for all site work.
* Prepare orders and statutory processes to acquire land and land rights.
* Negotiate wayleaves, easements, and other land consents, including Heads of Terms.
* Work closely with the Land team and cross‑disciplinary colleagues in engineering, environmental, and planning.
* Manage junior team members and provide technical training.
* Travel within the UK as required.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent experience in Geography, Land and Estate Management, Agriculture, or a related discipline.
* Experience delivering land referencing, land access, and landowner engagement services on water or infrastructure development projects.
* Experience negotiating with landowners, and knowledge of legal processes for acquiring wayleaves/easements/servitudes.
* Experience working with multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Experience developing orders or acquiring consents and interests in land, with relevant legislation knowledge (e.g., Water Industry Act).
* Strong attention to detail and quality assurance.
* Experience with infrastructure development, ideally in water, electricity, road, gas, rail, or renewable energy sectors.
* Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills.
* Professional body membership is advantageous.
