TCHC is looking for a motivational educator to join our team as a Health and Care Tutor based at our GAPS Basildon Centre.
Qualifications
* GCSE (or equivalent L2 Functional skills) in English and maths at grade C/4 or above
* Health & Social Care qualification up to L3 and above
* Qualified to PTLLS / CTLLS (or equivalent)
* Qualified to PTLLS / DTLLS / Cert Ed / PGCE (or equivalent)
* Assessor qualification and experience
If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, we are able to support you through the appropriate qualifications or assessments.
As a Health & Care Tutor, you will be responsible for planning and teaching the Health & Care curriculum, differentiating lesson activities and resources, marking work, keeping records, and ensuring ongoing assessment. You will maintain high pass rates and keep learners on track throughout the year, preparing a portfolio of work that demonstrates how they meet assessment criteria.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
* Plan, prepare and teach lessons at Entry 3 and Level 1 for Health and Care
* Create effective schemes of work that support individual learning and contribute to the company’s development
* Develop innovative lesson plans and deliver group activities that challenge all learners appropriately
* Diagnose learners’ literacy, numeracy and ICT needs using diagnostic tests and mock tests
* Differentiate lesson plans and resources in line with learner needs as outlined in EHCP documents or through observations
* Consider enrichment projects that support learner learning
* Use current technology to enhance teaching, learning and information retention
* Provide 1:1 support to learners where necessary, utilising LSA support during lessons
* Give appropriate encouragement, guidance, and support to help learners progress
* Manage any behaviour issues in line with TCHC policy, with support from the Centre Manager
* Prepare and submit up-to-date assessments of learners
* Manage LSA deployment during lessons, ensuring all learners are supported and their work meets the appropriate standard
Continuing Professional Development
* Undertake a full company induction programme under the guidance of the Centre Manager
* Follow the Education Inspection Framework
* Familiarise yourself with the EHCP process and undertake CPD for SEND learners
* Keep up to date with research and developments in teaching pedagogy, curriculum changes and new initiatives
* Prepare for and attend standardisation meetings instructed by Quality Assurance
* Work with the Quality team to ensure curriculum delivery meets high expectations for TCHC study programmes
* Reflect on and improve practice to promote teaching and learning, ensuring learner success and progress
Administration
* Implement TCHC assessment, recording and reporting procedures
* Track learner progress using appropriate tracking systems
* Set SMART targets for learners, including academic and personal growth, and align with EHCP targets
* Conduct 1:1 progress reviews of qualifications and personal skills
* Develop and maintain relationships with external organisations involved with the centre and curriculum
* Participate in meetings with colleagues, parents and agencies for the benefit of students
* Participate in events and open days as required
* Support absent colleagues as required
* Participate in OFSTED inspections as required
Safeguarding
* Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, following reporting procedures
* Use CPOMs to record safeguarding concerns or incidents accurately, keeping all parties updated with follow‑up actions
* Collaborate with the Centre Manager, Safeguarding Champion and DSL for information gathering
* Raise concerns immediately for the student’s welfare
Health and Safety
* Comply with all health, safety and welfare procedures
* Undertake risk assessments for the programme area related to teaching and learning
* Take responsibility for personal and others’ health, safety and welfare in all actions and inactions
Note
These responsibilities serve as an initial outline for the tasks that the post holder will initially be expected to perform. Changes may occur over time to accommodate evolving job requirements and adapt to shifting circumstances. Given the dynamic nature of our operational environment, flexibility and a willingness to travel to different work locations are essential. This outline will be reviewed periodically as part of our Continuous Professional Development process.

The individual in this role is responsible for upholding the confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, staff and other stakeholders. Certain aspects of the work involve handling confidential information that must not be disclosed outside official duties. Adherence to the General Data Protection Regulation Act is mandatory.
