An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Bone Marrow Transplant portfolio as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist within Haematology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
As a tertiary specialist centre for haematology patients in the region, we provide cutting-edge therapies for patients with various haematological malignancies, including Bone Marrow Transplant, CAR-T treatment, and intensive chemotherapy.
The post holder will work as part of a specialist MDT at a large transplant centre, ensuring adherence to international JACIE standards.
We are looking for someone capable of managing a dynamic workload, utilizing skills in medicines governance, finance, and clinical trials.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for validating Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and contributing to pharmaceutical care on our specialist inpatient wards. Training will be provided through our structured SACT verification programme.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to inpatient wards, including those receiving inpatient SACT.
2. Attend bone marrow transplant ward rounds, offering specialist pharmaceutical advice to patients undergoing stem cell transplantation.
3. Validate SACT across various sub-specialties.
4. Support the review and setup of new clinical trials and manage amendments to existing ones.
5. Utilize the ChemoCare system to set up treatment templates for trial and non-trial treatments.
6. Participate in governance meetings within the transplant portfolio.
7. Support the implementation of new anti-cancer treatments.
8. Assist with Drug & Therapeutics processes for unlicensed medicine use applications.
9. Undertake finance reporting to support value-based medicines initiatives.
10. Provide training and supervision to colleagues in the cancer team and pharmacy.
11. Supervise and line-manage a junior pharmacist within the team.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* Lead a highly specialised pharmacy service within the clinical specialty.
* Support prescribing standards and challenge non-compliance.
* Ensure safe, effective, and cost-effective medicines use, including individual prescription reviews and advising on dosages and side effects.
* Prescribers will operate within their competence, with support from the clinical director.
* Manage patient care plans, participate in ward rounds and MDT meetings.
* Handle complex problems and risk management, including incident investigations.
* Identify service improvement areas and develop strategies for change.
* Manage new drug introductions, including unlicensed medicines, and clinical trial input.

Qualifications
* Registrant of the GPhC
* Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
* Non-medical prescriber status
