LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London’s waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community.
By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.
About The Role
As a Plant Technician at LondonEnergy, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our energy-from-waste facility. Your responsibilities will include monitoring and maintaining plant equipment, responding to operational needs, and adhering to safety and environmental standards. We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Key Responsibilities
* Directly conduct or direct personnel, operations and maintenance for the safe and efficient operation of the EfW process
* Carry out duties from CCR, boiler/turbine operation and auxiliary plant. Act under instruction from Shift Manager (or designate) on removing plant from service and reinstatement
* Maintain an accurate log of all events and appropriate actions pertaining to the EfW plant and keep routine records
* Carry out all operations to ensure maximum throughput of waste and production of electricity
* Monitoring emissions and control combustion and FGT plant to ensure compliance within limits set in Environmental Permit
* Act upon alarms. Take appropriate action in relation to emergency work
* Supervise off-loading of chemicals, APC Residue removal and assist in cleaning up of any blockages and spills
* Routine recording and logging of plant parameters (ensuring relevant check sheets are completed as required)
* Act as part of the emergency response team
Requirements
* Minimum: C&G Boiler Operation, Turbine Operation or equivalent experience
* Preferably Ordinary National Certificate level in mechanical or electrical or plant engineering
* Experience in SCADA/DCS operation
* Must have experience in the operation of Boilers, Turbines and auxiliary plant, or suitable alternative experience augmented by further training
* Understanding the use of Health and Safety in the workplace
* An ability to work at height during shifts
* Health and Safety Report Writing
* Excellent communication skills
* The ability to work independently and as part of the team
* Be able to work shifts. Typical shifts are between 05:30 and 17:30, normally consisting of 2 days followed by 2 nights and then 6 days off; you will also be required to work weekends
