Overview
Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) is a service provided by the Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Trust and transport commissioners for patients meeting eligibility criteria. The post holder will be a vital member of the team who will assist in:
* Helping patients out of their home and into the ambulance (including lifting).
* Transporting patients safely, comfortably and promptly to their appointments.
* Returning patients home and ensuring they are settled before leaving.
* Keeping accurate records of journeys on both the PDA and the Daily Log Sheet.
Key responsibilities
* Assist patients with kindness, respect and compassion to often worried patients and their relatives.
* Transport older people, individuals physically disabled and people with mental health problems.
* Maintain contact with staff at the control room via PDA, receiving work allocation and advice.
* Wear the uniform provided and work alone or in a two‑person team in an adapted ambulance or wheelchair‑accessible vehicle.
* Work in a physically demanding role, covering a specific geographical area and occasionally dealing with distressing situations or seriously ill patients.
Vehicle and operation duties
* Complete a range of vehicle checks including tyre pressure, oil and screen wash levels.
* Report any vehicle or equipment defects to the Fleet Team.
* Ensure the allocated vehicle is adequately stocked with essential consumables and report missing stock.
* Return untidy ambulances to the Shift Manager.
* Communicate with the Control Team to gain instructions throughout the shift, call following each completed conveyance, and report any aborted, cancelled or delayed journeys.
* Refuel the vehicle and return it to base refuelled at the end of the shift.
* Work in line with all policies and procedures and wear the correct issued uniform at all times following the BBO guidelines.
* Sign out/in all equipment issued for a patient’s conveyance.
Requirements
* Valid, current Full (manual) UK driving licence with a maximum of 3 penalty points and held for a minimum of 2 years.
* Physical ability to lift and transport patients.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or in a team.
* Understanding of NHS policies and safety procedures.
Salary
