Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
We are looking for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive school-aged services team. The role is 0.8 WTE and covers both Conwy and Denbighshire. Clinical sessions will be scheduled based on current service needs. The ability to speak Welsh is essential.
Key responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of communication needs, especially speech and language disorders for school-aged children.
* Work with children in school-based settings and provide direct therapy.
* Plan and deliver training and support to school staff and the wider workforce.
* Support children and families, building strong rapport, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
* Engage in projects that contribute to service development.
* Supervise and support non-qualified staff and Speech and Language Therapy assistants.
Main duties
* Collaborate with Team Leaders and colleagues to ensure equitable, efficient, and dynamic service delivery.
* Manage a varied paediatric caseload across primary, secondary mainstream schools and specialist settings (ALN).
* Design and implement interventions for children on your caseload.
* Provide training, advice, and support to school staff and other professionals.
* Work in partnership with families and professionals to support children’s needs.
* Contribute to projects that enhance service development.
* Offer support to colleagues and partner agencies to develop knowledge and skills in working with speech and language disorders.

Person specification
Essential criteria
* Recognised qualification degree in Speech, Language and Therapy or equivalent.
* HCPC registered.
* Demonstrated CPD portfolio up to date.
* Experience across adult and paediatric SLT services.
* Experience in service development and improvement.
* Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses.
* Welsh and English therapy provision.
* Excellent interpersonal, assessment, reflection, planning, time‑management and organisational skills.
Desirable criteria
* Membership of professional network group.
* Other relevant academic qualification.
* Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate.
* Experience delivering practice supervision and leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Advanced clinical reasoning skills and understanding of clinical governance.
* Ability to report statistical information and present reports to a high standard.
* Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication.
