The Wilding Hotel is a recently refurbished, family run hotel in the Eden Valley, Cumbria. Owned by The Harker Family, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional guest experiences, whether they are enjoying a relaxing stay, dining with us, or enjoying a casual drink in our bar. This 17 bedroom boutique hotel has a public bar, lounge, restaurant and function room. The family also run Eden Wedding Barn, located 5 miles away from the hotel, winner of Cumbria Tourism Awards Wedding Venue of the Year 2025. The hotel's main clientele are wedding guests staying overnight.
We are seeking a talented and experienced Head Housekeeper with at least 2 years of experience to lead our housekeeping team and help us deliver high levels of cleanliness.
Summary
The Hotel Head Housekeeper role with Breakfast service responsibility ensures the smooth operation of housekeeping activities while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. This role also involves overseeing the breakfast service, ensuring timely setup, quality service, and a pleasant guest experience. The ideal candidate is detail-orientated, organised, and has a passion for providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise housekeeping staff to ensure daily cleaning tasks are completed efficiently and according to hotel standards.
* Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure cleanliness and safety.
* Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and housekeeping equipement; order replenishments as needed.
* Coordinate with other departments (maintenance, front desk, etc) to address guest concerns or special requests.
* Train, guide, and motivate housekeeping staff to perform at their best, ensuring adherence to hotel procedures.
* Monitor room cleanliness and ensure rooms are ready for check-in according to the hotel's check-in schedule.
* Respond to guest feedback and resolve any issues related to room cleanliness or housekeeping services.
Breakfast Service Responsibility
* Oversee the daily preparation and presentation of the breakfast buffet, ensuring quality and variety.
* Ensure breakfast area is clean, stocked, and wlecoming, meeting guest expectations.
* Supervise the breakfast service team, ensuring prompt and courteous service.
* Maintain strict hygiene and food safety standards in compliance with local health regulations.
* Ensure timely setup and replenishment of the breakfast buffet to accommodate all guests.
* Handle guest inquiries, concerns, or special requests during breakfast service, ensuring a positive experience.
* Assist with the dismantling and cleaning of the breakfast area after service.
Administrative Tasks
* Prepare and maintain daily reports regarding room status, staff attendance, and guest feedback.
* Assist in scheduling housekeeping staff shifts to ensure coverage and manage labour costs.
* Assist with inventory control, track stock levels for linenes, towels, cleaning products, and breakfast supplies.
* Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss departmental goals, procedures, and performance.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs; a degree in Hospitality Management or a related field preferred.
* Minimum 2-3 years of experience in housekeeping, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
* Experience in food service or breakfast management is a plus.
* Knowledge of cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring high levels of performance and job satisfaction.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
* Basic computer skills (MS Office, hotel management software).
* Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
* Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.
* Ability to walk, bend, and stretch in a variety of positions to inspect guest rooms and common areas.
