The Catering Ward Host(ess) Manager is responsible for the operational leadership of Ward Host Supervisors, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused food and beverage service across the hospital.
This role will primarily involve weekend working, plus one additional weekday, with flexible shift times between 8:00am and 6:00pm. Based at the Royal Derby Hospital, you will be part of a busy catering operation serving approximately 1,100 patients per service, supported by a Ward Host/Hostess team of around 150 staff.
The post holder will ensure compliance with ISS and Trust standards and policies, including HACCP, while driving service excellence, maintaining a safe working environment, and leading teams to consistently meet quality, hygiene, and performance expectations.
Responsibilities
* Provide effective line management, including performance management, training, and ongoing support to Ward Host Supervisors and teams.
* Oversee the planning and delivery of food and beverage services, monitoring daily performance to ensure service standards.
* Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and Trust policies, leading audits, inspections, and investigations as required.
* Promote a patient-first culture, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
* Identify and implement improvements to enhance productivity, efficiency, and service quality.
* Support budget control, procurement processes, and the effective use of resources.
About You
* Experience supervising or managing multi-disciplinary teams.
* Understanding of catering or Soft FM services.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work within clinical environments and handle sensitive situations professionally.
* Knowledge of health & safety, food safety, and infection control requirements.
