We’re seeking a proactive and technically capable Senior Engineer who is passionate about improving transport infrastructure and public spaces. You’ll bring a mix of design expertise, communication skills and a collaborative mindset. You will join a strong team recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector including active travel, public transport, bus priority and general traffic engineering.
Here’s what we’re looking for: As a Senior Engineer you will develop scheme solutions from concept through to detailed design and implementation. You will manage technical outputs, mentor junior staff, directly engage with Clients, and take responsibility for the successful delivery of high-quality outputs.
Key responsibilities
* Lead the design and delivery of general traffic engineering, Active Travel, public transport priority and urban realm schemes.
* Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
* Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
* Ensure all work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
* Delegate and coordinate tasks for engineers, graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
* Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
* Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
* Report regularly to the Principal Engineer or Project Manager on progress and risks.
* Proven experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of highway and traffic engineering schemes.
* Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements with supporting proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and design packages such as KeyLINES, KeySIGN, and swept path analysis (Autodesk vehicle tracking software).
Qualifications
* A relevant degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
* Working towards (or already achieved) Incorporated or Chartered status with a professional institution.
