Overview
Join to apply for the Engineer Verification and Validation - Capability - Morsons role at Rolls-Royce SMR.
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for the role of Engineer Verification and Validation - Capability as well as Senior Engineer Verification and Validation - Capability.
The Development Engineering organisation is responsible for demonstrating that the SMR power station design fulfils its objectives and requirements. It also provides the necessary data and evidence to support the station’s development and delivery through verification and validation activities, testing, demonstrations, and research and technology programmes. This responsibility extends beyond nuclear engineering to include a wide spectrum of engineering and operational disciplines essential for delivering a major infrastructure project.
V&V Capability Engineers play a vital role in ensuring that project delivery objectives are achieved. They are responsible for developing and maintaining the processes and tools that support Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, as well as contributing to the growth of people capability within the team.
Rolls-Royce SMR values engineers with diverse experience and skill sets as it expands across a range of technologies. Throughout the V&V lifecycle, Senior V&V Engineers are expected to mentor and coach their peers, helping to build the team’s overall capability. They also provide technical oversight and review of the team’s outputs to ensure quality and consistency.
Key Role Objectives:
* Creation and implementation of efficient, integrated processes, methods, tools, standards and guidance for Design Verification and Product Validation that enable RR SMR objectives to be achieved.
* Supporting Strategic V&V resource planning (both internal & external) to meet business needs and priorities.
* Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or other Capability Engineers to ensure technical excellence across Development Engineering, supporting Project delivery teams to ensure cost/quality/schedule requirements are met.
* Ensuring technical quality, competency & safety requirements are met in the Development supply chain, resulting in zero harm and right first-time delivery.
Key Selection Criteria
* Experience in verification and validation of new products within safety-critical, regulated industries is essential. While nuclear experience is preferred, backgrounds in power generation, process industries, or oil & gas are also valued. This may include developing V&V strategies, conducting analysis or testing, and reviewing evidence to confirm compliance with requirements.
* Proven experience in developing and improving methods, tools, processes, and team capability. Accountable for creating and delivering functional strategies (e.g. V&V approach, management plans), with a proactive mindset for challenging norms and driving continuous improvement. Skilled in developing digital processes; experience with Microsoft Azure low-code tools (PowerApps, Power Automate) is desirable.
* Good interpersonal & communication skills, able to bring people together and solve problems as a multi-disciplinary team (e.g. Design & Development). As the Verification and Validation Capability Engineer works cross disciplines, being able to engage and understand what needs to be delivered as well as influence other engineering teams to ensure systems engineering needs are met is essential.
* Brings a systems-thinking approach with hands-on experience using Systems Engineering tools and techniques to drive effective outcomes. Applies a clear, analytical mindset to manage change and uncertainty. Experience working with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) framework is a plus.
