Overview
Join to apply for the Speech and Language Therapist role at Cheswold Park Hospital. We are looking for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly Intensive Support Team (IST). You will work with adults with a learning disability and mental health problems and/or behaviours of concern who are at risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission and require intensive input from a multidisciplinary team. This can be a development post for a band 5 to 6 SLT.
The successful candidate would offer speech and language input to vulnerable clients and gain satisfaction from making a significant impact on quality of life by helping those around them to understand them.
Responsibilities
* Assess service users' communication needs and provide advice and training to ensure the needs are understood by carers and services supporting them.
* Be an integral part of the IST and contribute to assessments, formulations and interventions based on clinical experience, assessments and observations.
* Work independently, make autonomous decisions and use initiative; a positive, proactive attitude is welcomed.
* Receive clinical supervision from a Senior SLT and link with colleagues in other ISTs and community teams.
* Coordinate care and work closely with other agencies to achieve successful outcomes for service users.
* Engage in professional development and training opportunities as required by service need and applicant preference.
* Based at Mapplewell Centre with a specialist sensory room and rebound therapy room; open Monday to Friday, 9–5 with flexible/agile working options.
* Contribute to MDT meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences; maintain up-to-date records and activity data in line with professional and Trust standards.
* Provide SLT reports to Consultants, GPs and other agencies; participate in supervision of other staff as needed.
* Support leadership and development within the Specialist Learning Disability Health Team in line with local and national guidance.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Band 5 or 6; Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent; HCPC registration; RCSLT registration; current UK professional registration.
* Desirable: Postgraduate training in dysphagia; learning disability-focused training; evidence of continuing professional development; experience in NHS and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Band 5/6-specific criteria as applicable; ability to undertake post-graduate training to further skills, knowledge and expertise.
Personal Attributes and Skills
* Ability to implement the NHS 6C values and behaviours; effective verbal and written communication; organisational skills; flexible working approach.
* Full driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments for disability).
