Job Description:
Our secondary school in Staffordshire is looking for an experienced Cover Supervisor to support our teaching staff by supervising lessons in the absence of class teachers. This is a full-time, 5-day-a-week role where you will be responsible for ensuring that students complete the work set by absent teachers, while maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude towards students, and a natural ability to manage behaviour in a classroom setting. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain further experience in a secondary school environment or for someone who is passionate about supporting the learning and development of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervising students during lessons in the absence of their regular teachers.
Ensuring students understand the work set by the absent teacher and remain on task.
Maintaining a calm, disciplined, and focused classroom environment.
Supporting students individually or in small groups as needed.
Managing student behaviour in accordance with school policies and ensuring a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
Reporting on student progress, any incidents, or concerns during lessons to the appropriate department or staff member.
Assisting with administrative duties such as setting up classrooms or distributing materials.
Providing additional support to students during independent study sessions, where appropriate.
Requirements:
Experience working with secondary school-aged students (as a teaching assistant, in a supervisory role, or similar).
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain order in the classroom.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students' learning.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and deal effectively with challenging situations.
