Consultant Anaesthetist

We are looking for two enthusiastic Consultant Anaesthetists to join our friendly team, working in a fantastic area of the country between the South Downs and the Sea.
Our anaesthetic department is dynamic and has an excellent reputation for teaching, research and innovation as well as an excellent exam success rate. We have a flourishing and well respected MTI programme. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to hone and expand their clinical skills across a broad range of specialties in addition to developing services within University Hospitals Sussex and our partner organisations.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
* Provision of elective clinical anaesthesia for a wide range of specialties (sub‑specialty interests encouraged) incl.: Major colorectal, General surgery - incl. non‑tertiary upper GI, Gynaecology, Breast, ENT (incl. cancer diagnostic work and routine paediatrics), Urology (incl. nephrectomy), Maxillofacial, Ophthalmology, ECT, General Day Surgery Procedures, Preoperative assessment
* Provision of emergency workload (1:12; see below) Non‑resident on‑call supporting General theatre and Obstetrics residents/SAS grade doctors. There is a separate Critical Care Consultant cover out of hours with whom you will liaise closely to provide a comprehensive on‑call service

Person Specification
Experience/ Qualifications
* FRCA or its recognised equivalent
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Higher Degree
* FFICM OR DICM OR EDICM
* ATLS/APLS/ALS
* Subspecialty interest in bariatric anaesthesia
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Advanced training/special interest area relevant to job plan
* Deliver safe and effective perioperative care to patients undergoing complex general surgical procedures
* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
