A leading power company who have been established for 15 years andspecialise in the full lifecycle of critical grid infrastructure projects across the UK are looking for a head of engineering to join their team.
The Head of Engineering will serve as the company's lead technical authority, overseeing the delivery of new power plant projects and providing engineering governance for operational assets. This hands-on leadership role demands deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong project management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Site Feasibility & Design
Assess grid connection potential and technical viability of new sites.
Develop outline site layouts and electrical schematics for early-stage development.
Approve equipment and designs as fit for purpose.
Project Delivery
Ensure Health, Safety & Environmental compliance.
Ensure the principals of CDM are applied.
Manage tendering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of new plants.
Oversee recruitment for the delivery of projects.
Ensure seamless handover to Operations with robust O&M protocols.
Engineering Oversight
Provide technical support for operational assets.
Own and manage Long-Term Service Agreements.
Ensure quality, test and plan inspections are agreed
Support and approve factory acceptance testing
Maintain and manage telecontrol systems across all sites.
Support engineering audits, policy reviews, and training plans.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Power Engineering or similar field
Minimum 10 years engineering in heavy power, generation or transmission
Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary projects from concept to completion.
Strong financial acumen and project management skills.
Technical Competencies
Expertise in power plant systems, outage management, and maintenance strategies.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce single-line diagrams.
Skilled in document control, technical reporting, and tender/bid specification writing.
Familiarity with electronic maintenance management and inventory systems.
