Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon to join our elective services team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality outpatient and surgical ENT care within a streamlined elective pathway, supporting improved patient flow and excellent clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led ENT outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients.
- Deliver accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient counselling.
- Ensure high standards of clinical documentation and informed consent.
- Manage post-operative reviews and ongoing patient care.
- Undertake planned ENT procedures, including: Septoplasty (with or without turbinate reduction), Tonsillectomy, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS).
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and optimise patient pathways.
- Provide safe post-operative care and follow-up planning.
- Contribute to efficient elective theatre and clinic scheduling.
- Support initiatives to improve patient flow and reduce waiting times.
- Work within established clinical pathways and service protocols.
- Maintain flexibility to meet service requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
- Adhere to clinical governance, safeguarding, and patient safety standards.
- Participate in audit and quality improvement activities.
- Comply with organisational and regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide support and guidance to junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to a positive, safe, and efficient working environment.
Person Specification
Essential
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for ENT (or within 6 months of eligibility).
- Substantial experience in elective ENT practice.
- Proven competence in FESS, septoplasty, and tonsillectomy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care.
Desirable
- Experience in independent healthcare or high-volume elective services.
- Subspecialty interest in rhinology or general ENT surgery.
- Previous locum consultant experience.
- Interest in service development or pathway optimisation.
