We have an opportunity for a 12 month Band 5 radiographer to join us in our Radiography Department based in Haywards Heath at the Princess Royal Hospital.
We welcome applications from qualified HCPC registered diagnostic radiographers, who have gained recent practical radiography experience in an NHS setting in general radiography areas with an interest in working at University Hospitals Sussex .
This band 5 post will include rotation to the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre (on-site) and participation in the 24/7 working rota.
Haywards Heath is 18 miles inland, close to the South Downs.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 radiographer with us you will have the opportunity to develop your A&E experience in our busy 2 room X-ray Department providing a 24 hour service for major trauma and emergency work at PRH. This will include participating in our 24 hour cover including weekend and night duties on this site.
You will also gain experience in mobile and theatre work, general radiography and fluoroscopy.
Applicants must have current HCPC registration and have recent clinical experience in an NHS environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.
1. To achieve and maintain a high standard of radiographic/imaging techniques in all areas of general radiography and fluoroscopy.
2. To ensure that the department’s identification policy is adhered to and that all patients are correctly identified prior to undergoing any Imaging procedures.
3. To work without direct clinical supervision and to provide mobile imaging to patients who are too ill to attend the x-ray department.
4. To be competent in Theatre radiography and be able to manipulate the equipment to provide high quality images in a wide range of surgical procedures.
5. To be competent in fluoroscopy imaging as well as the preparation of the room and equipment for procedures within the fluoroscopy department and ensure that final images are correctly sent to and available on PACS for the radiologist / advanced practitioner at the end of the exam as required.
6. To be competent to work within the A&E imaging environment and be able to adapt techniques and to provide further views in trauma situations as necessary.
7. To promote a patient-focused service in a caring environment and ensure collaborative working relationships with all other departments.
8. To command a working knowledge of all equipment in the areas to which the radiographer is assigned. To ensure radiographic equipment is functioning correctly, to report any faults or errors to the senior member of staff for the area and make an appropriate record in the fault log.
9. To assist in the Departmental QA program and work in accordance with departmental policies, protocols and procedure.
10. To take part in the 24 hour Imaging service to provide radiographic cover under current or future terms and conditions.
11. Out of hours duties will form part of the contracted hours per week, subject to AfC pay enhancements.
12. To ensure that the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, IRMER 2017 and associated codes of practice and guidance notes, and the Health and Safety at Work Act are understood and adhered to in respect of staff, patients and members of the public.
13. To always behave in a professional manner in attitude, neatness of appearance, punctuality and competence, thereby upholding the reputation of the department and the hospital.
14. To assist in the achievement of departmental objectives in the training of student radiographers.
15. To be able to undertake clerical duties when required.
16. To be aware of essential procedures and take appropriate action in the event of cardiac arrest, major incident or fire.
17. To ensure practice is evidence based and is line with local policies and procedures.
