Your Impact

Reporting into the Head of Engineering Projects (HoEP), Typhoon Radar and collaborating closely with the Chief Engineer and Programme Manager, you will lead the engineering delivery for the Typhoon MSCAN Radar product area, ensuring that all engineering activities are planned, resourced, executed and delivered to schedule, within budgeted cost and following process for effective life cycle management and quality.

The Typhoon MSCAN Radar is the primary sensor for the Eurofighter Typhoon platform is a critical element of UK, partner and customer nations air superiority capability. Continuous development of this formidable product is key to supporting existing operations and to increasing the capabilities of the Eurofighter platform for decades to come.

This role is a unique opportunity to be a key part of delivering world-class capability in an increasingly important product domain. This role is a significant lead role within the Typhoon Radar sector, part of the RATS (Radar and Advanced Targeting) line of business in Edinburgh.

1. Product development milestones and deliverables

2. Deliverables required to support product certification as defined by the Chief Engineer

3. Product lifecycle management reviews and deliverables

4. Business winning requirements including bids and proposals

5. Technology development

6. Continuous improvement/cost reduction

7. You will be the line manager for the PELs (Project Engineering Leads) within the product area

8. You will be accountable for all Engineering execution through the engineering team

9. You will be responsible for ensuring that the IBM engineering labour demand is accurate and identifies future needs

10. You will be accountable for Engineering metadata, milestone data and forward load data in SAP

11. You will be responsible for internal project reporting to Programme Manager and HoEP

12. You will be responsible for ensuring the engineering team are encouraged and look for efficiency and effectiveness opportunities to improve and reward performance

13. You will be responsible for managing engineering priorities and conflicts within the product area

14. You will be accountable for life cycle management process being followed appropriately for the product area

15. You will accountable for Engineering risks across MSCAN Development projects being assessed, understood and effective mitigation plans being in place

16. You will be accountable for workplace and product safety processes being followed across all activities and product deliverables

17. You will be accountable for ensuring that work products and designs meet quality and performance standards as agreed with the Chief Engineer.

What you'll bring

18. Extensive demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams

19. Demonstrated experience in managing engineering teams across a wide range of product life cycle stages (requirements, concepts, design, qualification & support)

20. Broad knowledge and experience of Engineering product development process including safety and product verification

21. Demonstrated experience and personal effectiveness in collaborating with other business functions.

22. Demonstrated experience and excellence in people-management and team-leadership.

23. Understanding and demonstrated experience of formal problem-solving techniques

24. Demonstrated experience and personal effectiveness in working with external customers

25. Proven ability to adapt to changing circumstances and requirements

26. Either a first-degree STEM qualification or equivalent as recognised by professional accreditation scheme

27. Domain knowledge in radar systems.

28. Experience of working effectively with UK and international partners

29. Knowledge of working with Secret classified data

30. Experience as an independent reviewer or assessor for Design Reviews
