Working for our organisation

The Trust has an established breast oncoplastic surgery service providing oncological and reconstructive surgery. This includes volume displacement techniques, partial flaps, myocutaneous flaps and implant reconstruction. We utilise magseed or wires for localisation, along with magtrace or isotope for sentinel node localisation. The service is based in Burnley and the vast majority of breast surgery is undertaken as a daycase. We have access to Blackburn Theatres and Critical care beds if needed for more complex or high risk patients. We have a good relationship with neighbouring Preston, Manchester and Leeds Plastics Tertiary units. There is a fortnightly oncoplastic MDT with attendance by a Plastic surgeon colleague. Skills in breast oncoplastic surgery are essential and introduction of new procedures or procedures not currently available is encouraged. This creates an exciting time for prospective candidates to be part of a progressive breast surgical service.

The Breast department has a well-developed Family History and genomics service delivered by a CNS and PA. We have also established a community-based breast pain clinics utilising the East Midlands Pain Pathway, delivered by ACPs and PAs. We developed the Patient Led Follow Up Model for Breast Cancer.
