Medication Safety Officer (MSO) Join Our Team at LPT!

This crucial role focuses on improving medication safety, reducing medication-related harm and embedding a strong safety culture within our organisation.
As a Medication Safety Officer (MSO), you will:
* Promote a culture of open and proactive medication incident reporting to support learning and improvement.
* Work closely with clinical teams across all LPT sites to ensure best practices in medication safety.
* Investigate medication-related incidents, analyse trends and provide recommendations to enhance patient safety.
* Develop and implement policies, guidelines and training programs to improve medication safety across the Trust.
* Lead quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive meaningful change.
* Provide expert advice on serious incidents, medication risk management and regulatory compliance.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
* Experience in investigating medication incidents and implementing improvement strategies.
* A strong background in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Knowledge of medicines safety legislation and the ability to apply it in practice.
* The ability to influence and engage with healthcare professionals at all levels.
Hours of work: Mon- Fri. 8.30am-4.30pm/9.30am-5:30pm
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for leading medication safety and governance across the Trust, promoting a positive culture around incident reporting, and deputising for the Chief Pharmacist when needed.
Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as the Trust's Designated Medication Safety Officer and leading the Medication Safety agenda to reduce avoidable harm.
* Supporting the Chief Pharmacist in medicines governance and quality improvement.
* Leading clinical risk management, audits, and assurance programs related to medicines.
* Providing clinical pharmacy services in line with relevant standards. Coordinating strategies to enhance medication safety and ensuring compliance with national standards.
* Leading the Medication Risk Reduction Group within the Patient Safety Group.
* Working with clinical teams to improve medicine use safety and identifying risks on the hospital floor.
* Developing and implementing medication safety strategies and ensuring compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations.
* The role involves proactive engagement with teams, designing safer systems, and fostering a strong safety culture within the Trust.
