Job Summary
As a Children's Services Support Worker, your role is vital in providing care, support, and guidance to children and young people who may be facing various challenges or experiencing difficult circumstances. Your goal is to contribute to their overall well-being, development, and safety, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Emotional Support: Establish a supportive and caring relationship with children and young people, actively listening to their concerns, providing comfort, and offering guidance and reassurance.
Practical Assistance: Assist with daily tasks, including personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and household chores, ensuring a safe and clean living environment.
Behavior Management: Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behavior and encourage appropriate social interactions. Help develop and follow personalized behavior support plans as necessary.
Education and Development: Support children and young people in their educational pursuits, including homework assistance, promoting a love for learning, and encouraging participation in extracurricular activities.
Recreational Activities: Organize and participate in engaging and age-appropriate recreational activities, such as sports, arts and crafts, and outings, which promote socialization and physical well-being.
Health and Safety: Maintain a safe environment by monitoring children's activities, identifying and addressing potential risks, and promptly responding to any medical emergencies or incidents.
Collaborative Approach: Work closely with colleagues, parents/guardians, teachers, and other professionals involved in the child's care to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the specific needs and goals of each child.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely records of observations, incidents, and any significant developments, and communicate relevant information to appropriate team members or professionals.
Qualifications And Skills
Minimum high school certificate/diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a childcare or youth support role is preferred but not mandatory
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with children and young people, as well as collaborate effectively with colleagues and professionals.
Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting children and young people facing challenges.
Basic knowledge of child development principles and an understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism in all interactions.
