Principal/Associate Technical Director – Environmental Planning

Role description
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the Design and Build Sector. The role involves projects in protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise, across the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations. We protect natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.
Role accountabilities
* Work on a diverse range of projects including large‑scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water, mixed‑use development schemes, public realm and master‑planning projects, and smaller projects requiring nimble, agile approaches.
* Drive technical excellence and promote a flexible, collaborative environment supported by digital innovation.
* Coordinate and deliver planning / environmental work for multi‑disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes with a strong understanding of the D&B process.
* Build our portfolio in the D&B sector through business development, creating project opportunities and leading delivery of projects and collaborating closely with upstream Environmental and Planning work.
* Raise awareness of our services, win new opportunities and build new contacts.
* Engage key client relationships, lead by example, creating cross‑selling opportunities for the wider business.
* Engage with consultees and stakeholders.
* Manage projects, overseeing performance on technical, quality, commercial and health and safety metrics.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues across our Global Business Arcadis.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent working knowledge of the environmental and consenting process, including EIA practices, case law, environmental and sustainability principles and technical specialisms.
* Strong experience working with contractors and influencing sustainability through design.
* Experience across a range of project types.
* Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills, with experience reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
* Experience in multi‑disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
* Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
* Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
* A flexible, pragmatic, collaborative approach to work.
