The Mechanical Fitter will possess comprehensive engineering knowledge and practical experience in troubleshooting and installation work. The ideal candidate will have CompEx Mechanical qualifications and experience working in hazardous areas. Knowledge of top-tier CoMAH regulations, environmental, health and safety legislation is essential.
Responsibilities
1. Ensure duties comply with legal requirements and company policies.
2. Promote health and safety standards, maintain good housekeeping, wear PPE, report near misses, and isolate unsafe situations.
3. Complete documentation and routine checks, maintaining standards.
4. Manage workload for safe, efficient maintenance per CMMS instructions and regulations.
5. Perform and oversee installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
6. Collaborate with engineering supervisor on CMMS jobs and project plans.
7. Contribute to capital projects, including labour provision, supervision, and commissioning.
8. Identify and undertake repairs/upgrades to maximize plant availability and efficiency.
9. Report equipment faults and ensure safety measures are in place.
10. Follow permit to work procedures, including risk assessments and isolations.
11. Support the department with additional tasks like electrical work or forklift driving as qualified.
12. Participate in hazard studies, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
13. Follow change management procedures, ensuring approval and impact assessment.
14. Seek continuous improvement in plant operation and maintenance.
15. Provide basic training to colleagues as needed.
16. Ensure proper waste disposal in line with legislation and housekeeping standards.
17. Assist the engineering supervisor and deputize in their absence.
Role
1. Perform tasks safely, adhering to health, safety, and environmental practices.
2. Follow risk assessments and complete CMMS tasks timely and accurately.
3. Ensure repairs and installations meet standards and are tested before handover.
4. Record breakdowns and analyze root causes for improvements.
5. Manage work orders, spare parts, and consumables effectively.
6. Maintain communication with the engineering supervisor regarding activities and incidents.
7. Assist in maintenance planning and scheduling.
8. Follow waste segregation and disposal procedures.
9. Work flexibly during out-of-hours emergencies and shutdowns.
10. Undertake training on new technologies and safety requirements.
11. Support site incident recovery efforts if needed.
