A fast-growing tech company working at the intersection of machine learning and complex engineering, with a particular focus on helping manufacturers design and deliver better products, faster and more sustainably. Their software uses advanced, data-efficient AI to solve challenging problems in system design and calibration. Backed by major industry investors and recognised in national innovation awards, they’re scaling rapidly with a focus on impactful, real-world applications of machine learning. Looking for someone who can come into their Cambridge office, 1-2 times a week ideally. Sponsorship, is not being offered. THE ROLE As a senior design leader, you will shape the vision, strategy, and execution of UX and UI design to deliver innovative, user-centered experiences. If you’re a hands-on and strategic design leader who’s comfortable scaling design in a fast-paced environment, then this role could be a great fit for you. It's a small team, so you will still be expected to get your hands dirty and show a portfolio rather than a leadership deck. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development of a forward-thinking design strategy aligned with business and brand goals. Oversee the full product design lifecycle with a strong emphasis on user-centered, iterative design. Improve design operations and promote collaboration across cross-functional teams. Use research and data to guide design decisions and product improvements. Evolve and maintain design systems to ensure consistency and scalability. Embed accessibility and design best practices across the organization. Define and track key metrics to measure design impact. Mentor and grow the internal design team, fostering a high-performing, innovative culture. THE CANDIDATE Product Design Expertise : 8 years in UX and product design, with a portfolio showcasing strengths in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and usability. Leadership : 2–3 years in a design leadership role (e.g. UX Manager, Design Lead), with experience managing teams and driving design strategy. End-to-End Product Exposure : Hands-on involvement across the full product lifecycle—from concept to launch and iteration—with a clear understanding of the challenges at each stage. Skills & Qualifications Education : Degree in a relevant field such as UX/Product Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or a related discipline (e.g. Psychology, Computer Science, Information Architecture). Desirable Certifications : UX certifications like NN/g, CPUX, or equivalent credentials demonstrating advanced UX expertise. If this sounds like you, then please apply ASAP with your CV & PORTFOLIO to stand the best chance of getting an interview!
