Reporting to the Healthcare Legal Services Lead (Inquests & Advisory) and Senior Legal Manager (Inquests & Advisory), the Healthcare Legal Services Legal Manager will:
* Be responsible for managing and providing expert legal advice across all sites for the designated Speciality Team (Advisory & Inquests).
* Ensure staff across all services and sites are adequately advised and supported.
* Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the designated Speciality Team, including supporting the Legal Admin Team and the Legal Administrative Team Leader.
* Jointly lead the critical evaluation of the Trust’s policies and practices to ensure they promote patient safety and align with the Trust’s values.
* Assist in preparing board reports and briefs on high-profile matters.
* Jointly lead the triangulation and identification of relevant incidents, inquests, claims, advisories, and complaints.
Be responsible for instructing and managing outsourced legal services, ensuring efficient management of advice on legal matters.
* Liaise with HM Coroner and officers to meet the requirements of the Coroner’s Court.
* Ensure compliance with the Coroner’s and Justice Act 2009 and the Coroners Rules 2013.
* Provide expert advice on procedures for inquests.
* Ensure timely requests and receipt of statements; review witness statements for quality before disclosure.
* Support and prepare staff for their roles as witnesses before, during, and after inquests.
* Obtain statements and other information required by the Coroner.
* Arrange and manage de-brief sessions for staff during and after inquests.
* Provide ongoing analysis to ensure appropriate representation at hearings, including applications for NHSR funding where appropriate.
* Support communication teams regarding potential media interest related to inquests.
