PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As Principal UX Designer, you'll help shape how a global audience experiences content from one of the world's most trusted news organizations. You'll define and drive the UX vision for BBC Studios' digital news and factual products outside the UK-designing intuitive, inclusive, and impactful experiences that bring complex stories to life across devices and platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT Define and lead the overall UX and end-to-end product experience for a global audience consuming BBC's news and factual content across platforms.
Deliver intuitive, inclusive design solutions through wireframes, prototypes, and user journeys, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.
Collaborate closely with product, editorial, engineering, and research teams to validate, iterate, and communicate UX strategies and solutions.
Champion accessibility and inclusivity across all digital experiences, ensuring compliance with WCAG standards.
Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, creative working environment.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Extensive experience (10+ years) in digital product design/UX, with 4+ years in a lead role.
Deep expertise in UCD principles across responsive websites, mobile apps, and digital products.
Proficiency in Figma, prototyping tools, design systems, and collaboration platforms (Slack, Miro, Dropbox, Zoom, Teams).
Strong ability to map complex user journeys, create wireframes and prototypes, and optimize IA and flows.
Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
Experience designing for news media or factual content.
Solid understanding of design implications around commercial revenue opportunities.
Familiarity with agile design sprints and facilitating cross-functional workshops.
Experience working with global audiences and adapting designs to diverse cultural contexts.
Active interest in trends, culture, and evolving audience behaviors.

COMPENSATION
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is up to £82,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. This does not include other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
