As a Project Engineer Apprentice you will support the delivery of mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation projects of up to £5m in value for Thames Water, the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. The role offers hands‑on project experience, safety‑critical project exposure, and a clear pathway to a long‑term engineering career.
Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of small to medium capital projects from inception to completion.
* Work with operations teams and contractors to scope, design and cost‑effective solutions.
* Promote a zero‑compromise approach to health and safety, including CDM compliance.
* Collaborate with delivery partners to keep projects on track and mitigate business risk.
* Assist with producing and reviewing key documents such as RAMS, project plans and commissioning information.
* Support commissioning, handover and close‑out activities with operational teams.
* Ensure training records, test certificates and as‑built drawings are completed and handed over.
Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English at grades 9‑4 (A‑C).
* 64 UCAS points from any accepted Level 3 qualification(s).
* A full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle and business‑use car insurance.
* A genuine interest in engineering and a desire to build a future with Thames Water.
* No previous engineering experience required; we will provide the training.
Working Hours and Schedule
36 hours per week, comprising four working days plus one off‑the‑job training day. Typical working hours are 7.30 am to 3.30 pm, though these may vary.
Training & Qualification
Partnering with the University of the Built Environment, the apprenticeship includes:
* Weekly virtual learning sessions.
* Live seminars and recorded content.
* Online learning resources and tasks via a virtual learning environment.
* Certificate of Higher Education in Construction & Built Environment – Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Standard.
Competitive starting salary of £22,500 per annum during the apprenticeship. Upon completion, the starting salary will range from £38,126 to £47,674 per annum, depending on shift pattern.
