Location: Site-based, Bridgwater, Somerset - HYBRID (minimum 3x days office attendance AND 2x days remote working) Duration: Currently approved until 31dec26 (renewable) Status: Contract INSIDE IR35 Morson Edge are currently working with a major player in the Nuclear New Build sector who have a requirement for a Technical Lead Engineer (Mechanical) to join their established site-based team on a contract basis. The Joint Design Office (JDO) The JDO responses to site-based queries during construction, installation, and commissioning and facilitate closure of post-handover open points [PHOP] arising from site and by exception only PHOP's originating upstream of handover to site or subsequent design NCR. The JDO is also responsible for the treatment of Nuclear Safety Category 3 and 4 site queries as part of the Intelligent Customer role under a Technical Delegation of Authority given from the Project Design Authority. The JDO is also responsible for managing design changes and design configuration during construction, installation and commissioning. It is also responsible for the management of non-permanent design and As-Built information. Job Purpose / Overview The Technical Branch within the JDO delivers Category 1 & 2 changes with support of the wider business The successful applicant will be a key member of the wider Technical Branch of the Joint Design Office [JDO], operating as part a team responsible for resolving critical, cross discipline design issues and engaging multidisciplinary specialists. The role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of technical topics across the project, driving resolution of technical issues, strengthening engineering delivery and enhancing resilience of the JDO by proactively mitigating key project engineering risks. Typical Accountabilities (not limited to) Provide oversight and approve Nuclear Safety Category 3 changes. Lead joint Task Forces for Nuclear Safety Category 2 changes. Collaborate with colleagues to achieve high-quality technical outcomes and uphold safety-critical standards. Actively contribute during meetings, fostering constructive, delivery-focused discussions and supporting timely technical decision making. Support the identification and implementation of standardised technical solutions for recurring construction, installation and commissioning challenges. Criteria You MUST be approachable, adaptable, communicative and proactive. You MUST have excellent communication and presentation skills as you will be liaising with a variety of stakeholders across the wider business at various management levels. You will demonstrate and apply technically sound engineering judgements. With the ability to value-add in the resolution of issues of high complexity/risk in your own technical discipline/area autonomously and contribute to the substantiation of the safety case where required You will have the ability to interpret complex technical information, assess its impact on plant performance, and communicate this clearly to stakeholders Understanding of civil and mechanical interfaces Experience of onsite engineering with an understanding of design models and engineering drawings. Be a competent user of Microsoft software Qualifications Typically degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering Desirable - Other Appreciation of welding in a site and fabrication setting Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) Previous experience working in the Nuclear Industry Working in engineering design Safety Case Knowledge and previous experience of Nuclear Safety Categorisations
