Senior Care Assistant - Residential CareTo plan, implement and supervise the provision of quality care, in conjunction with People in our Care.To ensure People retain their dignity and individuality.To be involved in the general activities of the Care Home / Unit.To maintain a safe and secure environment for People, Staff Members and Visitors.About the roleSKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS Required, MAIN RESPONSIBILITIESCare:1. Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting People, when required, with all aspects of daily living.2. Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Care Home, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.3. Assist People in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring People retain their comfort and dignity.4. Pay particular attention to assisting People who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.5. Closely monitor People who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems.6. Assist in the promotion of continence.7. Assist in the delivery of care for People who are dying or who have a progressive illness.8. Assist with last offices.9. Maintain accurate records and ensure that each person within the Care Home has an individualized Care Plan. Care plans should be reviewed at a minimum monthly basis with a full review involving all external bodies being carried out twice per year or more frequently if required.10. Ensure all Care provided is documented at the end of each shift for each person in our care.11. Ensure all charts (turns, dietary intake, etc) are completed for each person as required.12. Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with People and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Care Home.13. Answer Nursecall system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.14. Report on well-being of People and liaise with GPs and Support Managers etc.15. Carry out regular checks on People at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.16. Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.17. Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Care Home's disposal of waste policy. Ensure the Care Home's resources are used appropriately.18. Clean and maintain equipment used by People / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Care Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company's attention to detail philosophy.19. If applicable, care for People's clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.20. Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company's policies and procedures.21. Assist People who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc). Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required. Set and clear tables and trays as required. Wash up as requested / required.22. Escort People travelling to and from the Care Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.23. Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with People' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with People.24. Assist where needed in the rearrangement of people's bedrooms moving furniture, beds etc, having due regard for safe moving and handling techniques at all times.25. Dispense medication, and ensure correct recording of all relevant information relating to medication (after satisfactory completion of the Safe Handling of Medicines course).26. Ensure all holistic assessments are carried out when People are admitted to the Care Home e.g. covering nutritional and incontinence issues, risk assessment etc.Communication:27. Participate in Staff and Client meetings as and when required.28. Liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure people receive the medical care they require.29. Ensure effective communication is maintained between the home and all external departmentsTraining and Development:30. Maintain professional knowledge and competence.31. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.32. Participate in relevant N/SVQ training to achieve required qualifications.Health and Safety:33. Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a person in our care, colleague, self or another.34. Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Care Home's Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.35. Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.36. Promote safe working practice within the Care Home. General:37. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Home.38. Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.39. Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible (but no later than 2 hours before a shift starts) of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.40. Ensure the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times.41. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.42. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.43.
