Controls Engineer – Greater Manchester – 18-24 months experience - Permanent – £40-43k + overtime when on site + 25 days holiday + training
Samuel Frank is recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join a well-established engineering business in Greater Manchester. This role will suit someone with 18-24 months experience who is comfortable getting hands-on with PLC-controlled systems and wants to build broader exposure across design, testing and site-based work.
The successful Controls Engineer will be working as part of a small, experienced team and will be involved in modifying, interrogating and enhancing PLC code rather than starting everything from scratch. You’ll support projects through build, test and commissioning phases, both in-house and on customer sites.
Key aspects of the Controls Engineer role include –
* Modify, interrogate and enhance PLC code across a range of industrial equipment
* Work with Siemens, Rockwell or Mitsubishi PLC platforms
* Attend internal & external training courses
* Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
* Fault finding on PLC-controlled systems and implementing fixes and improvements
* Assist with electrical control system design and safety circuits
* Work with comms protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP or DeviceNet
* Produce and maintain technical documentation linked to control systems
* Support installation and commissioning activity on UK customer sites
* Get involved in continuous improvement and small upgrades to existing systems
* Opportunity to support and learn from more senior Engineers on complex projects
The Controls Engineer role would suit someone who –
* Has 18-24 months experience in a controls / automation role
* Is comfortable tweaking and improving existing PLC code rather than pure greenfield work
* Has experience of fault finding on automated machinery or process equipment
* Has some exposure to HMI / SCADA systems
* Is happy to spend some time on site for commissioning and support work
* Has a relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Electrical Engineering or has completed an electrically biased apprenticeship
This Controls Engineer role offers a solid step up for someone early in their career who wants to move beyond basic support work and get properly involved in real-world automation projects. You’ll be working on tangible equipment, seeing projects through from build to site and develop into a well-rounded Controls Engineer
