Job Description
The Contracts Manager supports the operational execution of R&D contracts, managing all aspects of the contract process including drafting, negotiation, and execution of contracts related to Research and Development projects. The role utilizes legal‑approved templates, redlines parameters, and escalates protocols under the guidance of the Contracts Manager and Senior Counsel, R&D. The Contracts Manager reports to R&D Ops and has accountability to Senior Counsel, R&D for all legal aspects.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a portfolio of contracts supporting R&D, Medical Affairs and CTO projects.
* Draught, negotiate, and execute contracts, ensuring compliance with legal‑approved templates, negotiation parameters, and corporate policies, acting as contact for issues outside agreed parameters.
* Escalate deviations or risk‑sensitive terms to Business Partners or Senior Counsel, R&D.
* Act as operational partner to Legal to support R&D contracting priorities.
* Participate in training and performance reviews related to risk tolerance and escalation compliance.
* Work with External Service Providers (CROs), agree on contract templates and negotiation parameters, and serve as contact for issues outside these parameters.
* Coordinate with Legal Counsel, IP Counsel, Data Privacy Counsel, QA and Transparency Reporting teams to ensure all contracts comply with legislation, Good Clinical Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, and Corporate Policies.
* Monitor negotiation progress, manage issue escalation and resolution, ensuring stakeholders—including the contract requestor, external partners, legal, finance—are informed.
* Communicate contracting timelines and critical issues to internal stakeholders and external partners.
* Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and processes to improve efficiency.
* Assist Legal in developing templates and guidance documentation.
* Provide guidance to Contract Specialists where necessary.
Desirable Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in law, business, or a related field.
* Legal qualifications.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in contract management and negotiation.
* Familiarity with GxP environments preferred.
