The role is designed to directly support the Operations Manager in all aspects of facilitating and administrating the Security Operations on a busy, high profile and prestigious contract. Duties include managing the on-site security team as well as acting as a responsible figure for the security contract in the absence of higher management. The Duty Supervisor will have the responsibility for responding to, and closing, any requests relating to their duties. The Duty Supervisor is expected to take ownership, responsibility, and accountability for the on-site security operation across their designated portfolio when required.
The role relies on strong judgment, excellent management skills, professionalism, and confidence, and teamwork. Individuals in this role will need to step up to deal with all issues in the absence of the operations manager.
People Management & Staff Engagement
* Show resilience, take feedback on board, and deliver feedback to the team to keep them informed and engaged (e.g., briefings, toolbox talks).
* Identify and address performance/misconduct issues in line with Company Policy, ensuring poor performance or behaviour is escalated as appropriate.
* Ensure all staff maintain the company uniform dress code.
* Motivate and develop staff in line with company objectives using available tools and systems (e.g., e-learning).
* Conduct welfare meetings with staff and manage any issues arising from these.
* Conduct 3 monthly and annual appraisals for staff under the role remit.
* Ensure any mandatory training is delivered and maintain accurate training records.
* Ensure all staff are briefed prior to shift commencement and engage with staff at shift changes.
* Proactively communicate and engage with staff; act as a visible presence and complete post-visit checks where possible.
* Ensure all staff within the area have read and signed the AIs, SOPs and Risk Assessments prior to duties.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of daily operations and support the Operations Manager in the smooth running of the contract.
* Effectively manage site manning, Workplace+ and rosters to meet contracted hours and ad hoc requests, ensuring proper coverage and escalating issues.
* Be aware of hostile reconnaissance techniques and remain vigilant.
* Report, escalate, respond to, and investigate incidents as required.
* Communicate with operational staff regarding incidents and follow escalation procedures.
* Complete shift history and report discrepancies to the Operations Manager.
* Ensure officers complete accurate records and logs to the highest standards.
* Be thoroughly knowledgeable of routine and emergency procedures and respond appropriately to any eventuality.
* Comply with Mitie policies; report any non-compliance to the Operations Manager and take corrective action.
* Provide high-standard written reports as required and ensure timely submissions.
* Deliver high levels of customer service and professional conduct for all visitors and staff on site.
* Act as an ambassador to the client and ensure Mitie and the security industry are represented professionally and in compliance with the Security Industry Authority.
* Prepare in advance for events; brief officers and ensure readiness.
* Carry out staff pay checks and avoid pay queries.
* Conduct security questionnaires and competency checks; identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
* Escalation/management of duties in the absence of the Operations Manager.
* Maintain a work environment that adheres to health and safety policies and provides a duty of care on site.
* Attend staff meetings as required.
* Complete welfare and uniform checks and act on discrepancies.
* Ensure officers are trained to high standards with ongoing training and audits throughout shifts.
* Lead training exercises, including tabletop and live exercises, and conduct site penetration testing to test security robustness.
* Participate in large-scale scenarios to test operational readiness and procedures.
* Carry out drills at least twice a month and lead tabletop exercises on security threats with reports on resolutions.
* Ensure ongoing training of all officers and record hours on a training matrix (minimum 15 hours per month).
* Complete investigations and disciplinary actions per Mitie policies; record sickness or incidents and take HR action as needed.
* Identify poor performance or misconduct and ensure fair handling in line with Mitie policies, with escalation to HR as required.
Candidate Profile
* Possess excellent customer service skills and attitude.
* Experience in managing a security team and CCTV monitoring.
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to compile reports.
* Excellent IT skills with the ability to work in multiple system applications.
* Front Line SIA licence in Security Guarding and CCTV.
* Highly organized and able to work on own initiative and develop/manage a team.
* Ability to build professional relationships with client, staff, and visitors.
* Professional, proactive, and solution-driven approach with high standards of work and attention to detail.
* Ability to operate in a high-pressure environment and manage incidents.
* Flexible, innovative, and forward-thinking; experience using Workplace+ is a plus.
* Ability to handle issues as they arise and write clear, accurate reports.
