About the role
Pay Details: Youth Engagement Worker JNC Point 15 £33,869 per annum
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 Hrs a week, 52 weeks a year, to include evening and occasional weekend work.
Main Place of Work: Office base at Civic Offices, Barry. With travel to our youth provisions located across the Vale of Glamorgan but you will be able to share transport, use Council’s pool cars and/or claim travel expenses.
Temporary Reason: Temporarily funded until 31st March 2028 as part of a pilot project.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Specialist Youth Worker to lead on the operational coordination and delivery of Outdoor Learning, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), international exchange, and residential programmes across the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service. Working within a defined programme framework and under the strategic direction of the Senior Youth Engagement Worker, the postholder will play a key role in ensuring high-quality, safe, and inclusive opportunities for young people, while contributing specialist expertise to the wider Youth Service team.
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive CPD opportunities, development of new skills within the youth work sector, be part of a dynamic team that create positive influences within the local community and make a difference to young people’s lives. Candidates will be eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme.
About you
* At least 2 years’ experience of face-to-face youth work, including work with challenging behaviour.
* Experience delivering Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), including expedition planning and logistics.
* Experience planning and coordinating outdoor, residential, and international exchange activities, including risk management and funding compliance.
* Experience coordinating volunteers in a youth work or outdoor education context.
* Experience of facilitating group work and consultation activities with young people.
* Experience of recording outcomes, report writing, and using management information systems.
