The salary for this role is £56,596 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days each week.
This role is based at Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

As Operations Team Leader (Waste Services), you will play a pivotal role in managing and developing the staff within your team, and ensuring the availability and performance of all TFC’s tritium/waste operational equipment and capabilities.
Overall Purpose: The Tritium Fuel Cycle (TFC) division leads the delivery of tritium lifecycle solutions for sustainable fusion energy, aiming to maximize scientific and economic benefits. The division is responsible for designing, delivering, and operating cutting-edge tritium lifecycle facilities, and for developing collaborations and a community of experts.
The operational groups within TFC operate unique facilities to enable research and development teams that pursue tritium lifecycle development. The team focuses on developing capabilities to test and verify viable fusion tritium lifecycle technologies, while minimizing operational liabilities. The Operations Team Leader is responsible for staff management and ensuring operational readiness.
Accountabilities
* Ensure staff safety, health, and welfare are maintained according to policies and procedures.
* Promote UKAEA’s values, championing equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* Manage staff effectively: resource allocation, recruitment, knowledge transfer, welfare, objectives, performance, absence, professional development, coaching.
* Ensure qualified staff are in place to meet standards and regulations.
* Provide technical leadership and advice on projects. Support decommissioning, liability reduction, and waste disposal strategies.
* Fulfill duties of and hold the Authority to Operate (ATO) for designated facilities. Manage asset database for facilities and services.
* Act as contract project manager for third-party suppliers, liaising with relevant teams.
* Represent TFC’s offerings internally and externally. Support UKAEA initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
Salary: £56,596 (inclusive of Specialist Allowance) + excellent benefits including a pension scheme.
Qualifications and Skills
* Minimum HND level or equivalent in a relevant discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of fusion and controlled wastes.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
