Offer description

The University of Glasgow is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Disability Adviser to join our dedicated Student Support team on a temporary 3 month contract. This role serves as a primary point of contact for students with disabilities, long:term health conditions, and neurodivergent profiles. You will be responsible for providing professional guidance, conducting initial assessments, and facilitating the implementation of reasonable adjustments to ensure an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Triage: Conduct initial assessments to determine the functional impact of a students condition on their academic studies.
*

Reasonable Adjustments: Recommend and implement tailored support, such as examination arrangements, staggered deadlines, and assistive technology.
*

DSA Guidance: Advise students on the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) process and coordinate required non:medical help (NMH).
*

Case Management: Manage a high:volume caseload independently, ensuring all records are accurate, confidential, and compliant with GDPR.
*

Risk and Safeguarding: Identify students in distress and follow established escalation pathways to ensure student safety.
*

Stakeholder Liaison: Work collaboratively with academic departments, external health professionals, and funding bodies to ensure joined:up support.

We are looking for a professional with a background in disability support or student welfare who understands the barriers to success in a Higher Education setting. You should be an exceptional communicator with the ability to maintain professional boundaries while handling sensitive situations.

Essential Criteria:

Education: Educated to SCQF Level 8 (e.g. HND or SVQ 4) or equivalent professional experience.
*

Experience: Proven background in disability support, mental health, or student welfare.
*

Knowledge: Working understanding of the Equality Act (2010) and its application within education.
*

Technical Skills: Proficiency in digital record:keeping and case management systems.

Desirable Criteria:

*

Specialist training or certifications in neurodiversity, particularly Autism (e.g. National Autistic Society).
*

Experience in delivering low:intensity, CBT:informed interventions or psychoeducation.
