The Role
As an HR Advisor, you’ll support the effective delivery of the People agenda by coaching, guiding and developing line managers to confidently manage their teams. You’ll provide timely, professional HR advice across a wide range of people matters, ensuring consistency, compliance and a strong focus on building manager capability.
Working collaboratively across the South Staffordshire Plc Group, you’ll contribute to shaping our culture, strengthening colleague engagement and supporting the delivery of our People Promises. You’ll also play a key role in reducing ER case activity, improving retention, supporting wellbeing and driving improvements in our core people metrics.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Providing pragmatic HR advice on performance, absence, probation, disciplinary, grievance and engagement matters
* Coaching and mentoring line managers to build capability and confidence
* Advising on employment law, ACAS guidance and policy application
* Supporting early, informal resolution of issues, including mediation
* Collaborating with HR Coordinators and acting as an escalation point for complex queries
* Coordinating Occupational Health referrals and supporting family leave processes
* Partnering with managers to identify development needs and improve leadership effectiveness
* Supporting the design and delivery of people‑management training with L&D
* Contributing to HR projects, policy development and People initiatives
* Supporting talent management, workforce planning and engagement activities
* Working with Talent Acquisition to support effective hiring and onboarding
* Monitoring HR metrics and identifying trends to inform proactive interventions
* Supporting People Networks, wellbeing forums and engagement activities
* Contributing to the delivery of the business area People Plan
* Supporting TUPE activity where required
* Ensuring payroll queries are resolved promptly
What You’ll Need
* Proven experience in an HR advisory role
* Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
* Experience coaching and supporting line managers
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
* Confidence in handling sensitive or complex people matters
* A proactive, organised and solution‑focused approach
* Strong emotional intelligence and an approachable style
* Resilience, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement

* CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience)
