Job Description
As an Associate or Associate Director based out of our Southampton office, you will provide technical leadership to our design teams and deliver high‑quality, on‑time, on‑budget flood risk and drainage projects. You will lead design teams, mentor junior members and manage technical reports, client relationships and regulatory submissions.
Responsibilities
* Develop and nurture relationships with key clients.
* Display strong interpersonal and communication skills while working independently and collaboratively.
* Manage and execute projects within agreed timeframes and budgets.
* Oversee a team producing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy Reports.
* Be proficient in detailed drainage design through to construction.
* Lead the preparation and submission of S104 applications and support S106/S278 design.
* Apply industry guidelines, including NPPF, SuDS Manual, The Design and Construction Guidance and related technical standards.
* Review technical reports, conveying complex information clearly.
* Lead discussions with local flood authorities, Environment Agency and water authorities.
* Champion health and safety practices in the workplace and the design process.
* Mentor and develop junior team members.
Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE or CIWEM.
* Proven track record of building strong client relationships.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Experience in S104 submissions and drainage design for S106/S278.
* Knowledge of industry guidelines such as NPPF, SuDS Manual, The Design and Construction Guidance.
* Strong technical reporting and review abilities.
* Strategic leadership and high‑visibility project management skills.
* Alignment with WSP core values.
* Capability to coordinate across disciplines and share best practice.
* Engagement with Technical Leadership Group to promote innovation.
* Experience securing new workstreams and business development within the development sector.
* Leadership of Development or Development Infrastructure projects.
* Business development experience within local networks and major opportunities.
* Experience mentoring mid‑career professionals in client, project and leadership roles.
* Assistance in bid reviews and submissions, adding commercial and technical value.
