CNC Turner Setter / Operator
Location: Wellingborough
Salary: £16.00 - £19.00 per hour
Hours: Hours of work is 7:30-4:30 Mon- Thurs 7.30- 1.30 on Fridays
About the Role
Reporting to a Team Leader within the Turning Section, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC turning machines. This includes preparing materials and tooling, running production to required quantities, and carrying out in-process inspections to ensure all components meet specifications and quality standards. You will also be involved in both online and offline programming when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Set and operate CNC turning machines, including Mazak equipment
* Read, interpret, and communicate technical drawings and specifications
* Modify and edit CNC programs to suit tooling, materials, and machine conditions
* Program machines both online and offline as required
* Operate and manage Fanuc controls
* Prepare materials and tooling for upcoming jobs
* Load machines and run production to meet targets
* Carry out in-process inspection and measurement using precision instruments
* Deburr, finish, and complete components to required standards
* Perform basic machine maintenance (cleaning, oiling, coolant checks)
* Complete job documentation, including route cards and work logs
* Submit finished components for inspection
* Maintain a high level of quality awareness and attention to detail
* Participate in continuous improvement activities
* Work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
* Support team objectives and contribute as a proactive team player
* Carry out additional duties as required
Requirements
* Ideally a time-served apprentice with 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
* Proven experience in CNC turning, setting, and operating
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal
* General PC literacy
* Reliable, punctual, and motivated with a strong work ethic
