Our estate includes 430 buildings and 3,600 hectares of land, (total asset value of £1000m), including leisure centres, libraries, health facilities, schools, industrial units, offices, and farms.We are now recruiting for an Asbestos Risk Officer to join our Building Health, Safety and Risk Team.About the roleAs our Asbestos Risk Officer, you will be a key player in ensuring our buildings are compliant, safe, and fit for purpose. You will work closely with the Building Health, Safety and Risk Manager to:
* Develop and lead the implementation of our corporate asbestos management strategy.
* Oversee asbestos surveys, testing, and removal activities across the council's estate.
* Ensure asbestos-containing materials are safely managed and risks are minimised.
* Provide expert advice and training to internal teams, site managers, and tenants.
* Lead on incident investigations and contractor management relating to asbestos.
* Support wider safety compliance efforts including fire safety, legionella, audits, and inspections.
* Develop policies, risk assessments, and training materials.
* Work across departments to promote a proactive, risk-aware safety culture.
About YouWe're looking for a personable, proactive, and customer-focused professional with:
* A NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
* Relevant asbestos qualifications (e.g., BOHS P402, P403, P404, P405).
* Demonstrable experience in asbestos risk management across a variety of building types.
* A pragmatic, detail-oriented mindset with a passion for health and safety.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across teams.
* A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
