We're supporting a well-established technology-led business in North Manchester that is currently going through a major modernisation of its infrastructure and platform environment.
As part of this journey, they are looking for an IT Support Team Lead to take ownership of the internal infrastructure and support function, leading a small team while ensuring the environment remains stable, secure and well managed as the wider platform evolves.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who is comfortable operating across on-prem infrastructure, support operations and internal systems, while bringing structure, accountability and technical leadership to the team.
The business operates in a fast-moving environment with a collaborative culture and a strong emphasis on ownership, problem solving and teamwork.
The Role
You will be responsible for leading the internal support and infrastructure function, acting as the escalation point for technical issues while ensuring the team delivers a high level of service across the organisation.
You'll work closely with the wider engineering and platform teams to support the business as infrastructure continues to modernise.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and mentoring a small team of support engineers
Acting as the technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and support issues
Managing workloads and ensuring the team delivers effectively across day-to-day support activity
Overseeing internal infrastructure including servers, networking and system administration
Contributing to infrastructure improvements and supporting ongoing modernisation work
Producing bi-weekly reports on platform health and support activity
Working closely with engineering and platform teams to ensure stability across environments
Technical Environment
This role sits across a mix of on-prem infrastructure and modern platform tooling, so the successful candidate will be comfortable operating across both.
Key technologies include:
Microsoft 365 ecosystem - Entra, Intune, Active Directory, GPO, SSO, Teams, SharePoint
Virtualisation - VMware / vCenter / ESXi
Servers & Storage - Dell infrastructure
Operating Systems - Windows 11, Windows Server (2019+), Ubuntu
Networking - Firewalls, switching (OS10), core networking principles
Database administration - basic MS SQL tasks including backups and instance management
Security & patching practices - antivirus, vulnerability management and 3-2-1 backup strategy
This role requires someone who is technically credible and comfortable leading from the front.

Have strong experience working across infrastructure and support environments
Are confident acting as the technical escalation point for complex issues
Have previous experience leading or mentoring support engineers
Are comfortable managing on-prem infrastructure environments
Can bring structure, accountability and strong operational practices to a team
