An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the Maternity & Women's Services Directorate at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This post offers the opportunity to join a consultant-led Obstetrics and Gynaecology service, delivering high-quality, safe and compassionate care across obstetrics and gynaecology pathways. The successful candidate will provide senior clinical leadership in the care of women across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal services, as well as contributing to gynaecology services in line with their skills and experience.
The role includes participation in the consultant on-call rota, providing senior decision-making for complex and high-risk cases and supporting delivery of 24-hour consultant-delivered care. The post holder will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, specialty trainees, locally employed doctors, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.
In addition to clinical duties, the consultant will contribute to education, supervision, governance and service development, supporting continuous improvement of maternity and women's health services in line with national priorities and Trust objectives.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide consultant-led clinical care across obstetrics and gynaecology services, including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, labour ward activity, and gynaecology services appropriate to experience.
You will provide senior clinical leadership during on-call periods, managing complex and high-risk cases, supporting safe escalation and decision-making, and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care and safety.
The role includes supervision and support of junior doctors, specialty trainees and locally employed doctors, contribution to teaching and training, and active participation in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activity.
The consultant will also contribute to service development, leadership initiatives and delivery of Trust and Directorate priorities.
