Role Purpose:
Operating within our young people's provisions, we offer housing and tailored support for individuals aged Our team is expected to adhere to established policies, procedural frameworks, and local Pathway guidelines to ensure the highest standard of care.
As part of the team, you will deliver a person-centered, flexible, and responsive service to young people. Support Workers will manage a caseload, conducting comprehensive Needs and Risk Assessments to develop personalised plans. These plans will focus on fostering independence and equipping young people for a successful transition within the Young People's Pathway or into independent accommodation.
Under the direction of the Registered manager, Support Workers will provide direct support to the young people we accommodate.
Principle Responsibilities:
· Monitoring the premises to ensure a safe and secure environment, including room checks and welfare checks on young people. Ensuring visitors comply with entry and exit policies.
· Handling any emergencies, including fire safety procedures and first aid.
· Reporting and responding to any safeguarding concerns.
· Providing emotional support and reassurance to young people.
· Assisting with crisis intervention if residents experience distress.
· Encouraging independence while offering help when needed.
· Keeping communal areas tidy and ensuring the property remains in good condition.
· Reporting maintenance issues to management.
· Logging all incidents, observations, and interactions in reports.
· Handing over key information to the day staff to ensure continuity of care.
· Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding principles in all records.
· Dealing with any disputes or disturbances during the night. Using de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behavior. Contacting emergency services if required.
Experience Needed:
· Proven ability to work effectively with vulnerable young people, with a clear understanding of how Every Child Matters applies to those living in our accommodation.
· Strong knowledge of best practices for supporting young people with diverse needs, including mental health challenges, substance misuse, physical and emotional health conditions, gang involvement, offending behaviour, and antisocial behaviour.
· Experience working successfully in high-pressure environments, managing individuals who may present with complex and challenging behaviours.
· Demonstrated understanding of risk and needs assessment, as well as the ability to develop, implement, and review goal-oriented support plans with young people.
· Awareness of effective approaches for engaging hard-to-reach or chaotic client groups.
· Understanding of the key principles that underpin high-quality services for young people.
· Knowledge of methods to support young people in developing life skills and engaging in meaningful activities.
· Strong understanding of the challenges associated with supporting looked-after children in a residential setting.
· Ability and willingness to work a flexible rota, across weekdays and weekends.
· Good numeracy, literacy, and comprehension skills to support young people with welfare benefits, rent, and service charge payments, as well as proficiency in using computers for administrative tasks such as creating letters, recording key work, and writing minutes.
