Join the frontline estates & facilities Team at your local hospital on a temporary basis!
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Estates Maintenance Technician to join a busy team, supporting the safe and efficient running of our healthcare environment. This is a hands‑on, varied role where no two days are the same — perfect for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, taking initiative and making a real difference to patient and staff safety.
As part of the Estates team, you will help deliver effective day‑to‑day maintenance, defect and breakdown responses, and planned preventative maintenance across the Trust. You will contribute to creating a safe, compliant and comfortable environment for patients, staff and the public.
This role includes elements of multi‑skilling and may involve on‑call duties to support emergency repairs outside normal working hours.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and capital works across Trust sites.
* Complete new works and alterations both in and out of normal working hours.
* Work to statutory requirements including HTMs such as HTM 06‑03, 02, 03‑01, 04‑01, HTM 2030, HTM 2010 and others relevant to clinical engineering environments.
* Follow the Trust’s Permit to Work systems and ensure safe access control in hazardous areas.
* Carry out risk assessments and ensure high safety standards at all times.
* Support on‑call rotas to provide timely emergency repair response.
* Undertake planned preventative maintenance and produce statutory test records and documentation.
* Use and monitor the Building Management System (BMS) to identify faults and improve energy efficiency.
* Liaise with Maintenance Officers, contractors, and store personnel as required.
Communication & Teamwork
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, contractors and clinical areas to negotiate access and organise works.
* Share knowledge and support maintenance craftsmen and assistants.
* Provide clear, professional communication to staff, patients and members of the public.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Planning & Organisation
* Manage your own workload via PDA and respond to ad‑hoc jobs requiring immediate attention.
* Ensure tools and equipment are clean, safe and well maintained.
* Contribute to the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures.
* Safely dispose of obsolete or redundant plant and equipment.
Additional Duties
* Provide data for audits and surveys when required.
* Report defects or hazards that may impact safety or operations.
* Support policy updates and share ideas for improvement.
* Maintain accurate paperwork including timesheets, job tickets and statutory test certificates.
What We're Looking For
* Experience in a maintenance or engineering environment, ideally within healthcare (desirable but not essential).
* Ability to work flexibly across the Trust, including participation in the on‑call rota.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently.
* Commitment to safe working practices and compliance with statutory requirements.
* Willingness to undertake training, including specialist training for washer disinfectors and steam sterilisers.
