Job overview

We are looking for a caring, motivated, and proactive Continence Support Worker to join our specialist continence service. This is a rewarding role supporting children and young people with bladder and bowel needs to maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will provide person‑centred continence care, support assessments, deliver advice, and promote best practice in toilet training and continence management across the service.

Main duties of the job

What You’ll Do

7. Complete continence assessments
8. Carry out bladder scans and collection of urinalysis.
9. Provide bladder and bowel health education to patients, carers, and families
10. Assist with fitting continence products and equipment
11. Deliver follow‑up support, monitoring progress and escalating concerns appropriately
12. Help promote continence awareness across community and clinical settings
13. Maintain accurate records and contribute to individualised care plans
14. Act as a compassionate advocate for patient dignity and privacy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

20. Manage incoming referrals, ensuring accurate data entry and timely triage
21. Book and coordinate patient appointments, clinics, and follow‑up visits
22. Act as the first point of contact for patients, carers, and professionals
23. Provide clear, sensitive communication about continence service processes
24. Maintain and update patient records, databases, and correspondence
25. Support clinicians with administrative tasks, document preparation, and clinic organisation
26. Handle telephone enquiries, emails, and service inboxes professionally
27. Order stock, manage deliveries, and maintain equipment registers
28. Support the team with audit data, reports, and service improvement projects
29. Uphold confidentiality, data protection, and professional standards at all times

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

31. NNEB/CACHE-DNN/HND/Foundation degree - childhood hood studies or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

32. Assistant Practitioner.
33. Play Therapist
34. Makaton training.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

35. Considerable experience of working with children and their families/ extensive nursery nurse experience.
36. Experience of working with children and young people and their families with health needs and within the safeguarding arena.
37. A basic understanding of organisation of nursing care
38. Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality
39. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable criteria

40. Experience of working in a health care or related setting
41. Experience of working within a community setting.
42. Experience in presenting and teaching at local level. Experience of working with children with special needs, in particular
43. Neurodevelopmental / ASC / ASD children.
