Catering Assistant
Reporting to the Catering & Housekeeping Team Leader
Equivalent to a band 2. We also allow for unsocial supplements

Role Purpose
To work with the Bassetlaw Hospice team to maintain the highest standards of catering and hospitality, ensuring that patients' nutritional and dietary needs are met with care and sensitivity. A major part of this role is the ability to produce home-cooked meals using fresh ingredients, tailored to patients' appetites and dietary requirements.
Main Duties
· Follow weekly cleaning schedules to maintain hygiene standards of all catering equipment and work areas.
· Ensure storerooms are clean, tidy, and equipment is used safely and correctly.
· Adhere to COSHH, Food Safety, Allergen and HACCP guidelines.
· Follow instructions given by the line manager.
· Maintain Bassetlaw Hospice's reputation through professional conduct in all catering activities.
· Comply with safe use, storage, and disposal of documentation.
· Be self-aware of the demands of the role and seek support when required.
· Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers, staff, and volunteers, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
· Comply with all Bassetlaw Hospice policies and procedures.
· Undertake other reasonable duties as directed.
General Duties
· Work collaboratively and cooperatively with Bassetlaw Hospice colleagues.
· Respect confidentiality in all aspects of hospice work.
· Abide by the Health and Safety at Work Act.
· Work within Bassetlaw Hospice policies and procedures.
· Participate in team meetings, including supporting induction of new staff.
· Always act in a professional manner, reflecting and maintaining the values of Bassetlaw Hospice.
Skills, Experience and Attributes Required
· Ability to prepare homemade meals, including baking.
· Knowledge of dietary needs and nutrition.
· Basic knowledge of Food Safety standards.
· Ability to complete and maintain records accurately.
· Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively.
· Flexibility, good listening skills, and a sensitive, compassionate approach.
· Basic IT skills.
· Ability to support colleagues and maintain positive working relationships at all levels.
· Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative.
