Job Summary
Clinical Nurse Specialist in Early Pregnancy Care B7 - 30hrs. An exciting opportunity within Early Pregnancy, to work within our small team. You will be involved in triaging referrals, providing telephone advice, undertaking early pregnancy clinics, and providing outreach support to other areas (A&E, SDEC and wards). This post complements the existing CNS early pregnancy team at Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Act as an independent practitioner using advanced skills and medical ultrasound imaging to assess, diagnose and prescribe management plans.
* Triage early pregnancy referrals via Email / ICE / private scan clinic and mobile phone referrals.
* Carry the EPAU mobile.
* Outreach with A&E / SDEC / day case / theatre / wards.
* Manage pregnancy tissue – collection, storage, testing and reporting of results.
* Deal with incidences / complaints.
* Assist with organising medical and surgical management of miscarriage to aid smooth running of clinic.
* Administer mifepristone and methotrexate.
* Update policies, guidelines and SOPs.
* Review blood and swab results to create management plans.
* Attend handover / liaise with on‑call gynaecology team to address pending patients.
* Manage hyperemesis patients.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications:
* Registered nurse/midwife with current registration.
* Substantial broad experience relevant to area of practice.
* Professional knowledge through degree plus postgraduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses and further specialist training to master's equivalent level.
* Mentor/teaching qualification.
* Postgraduate medical ultrasound qualification.
Desirable qualifications:
* Independent prescriber.
* Qualification in sexual and reproductive health.
* Letter of competence FSRH in sub‑dermal implant fitting and removal.
* Letter of competence FSRH in intrauterine device fitting.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
* Significant post‑registration experience, particularly in gynaecology and early pregnancy.
* Demonstrated ability to manage own workload.
* In‑depth knowledge of early pregnancy and related treatment and care.
* Awareness of recent developments in practice and continued learning.
* Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct.
* Knowledge of the Trust’s nursing and midwifery strategy.
Desirable:
* Autonomous practitioner in early pregnancy, gynaecology, contraception and termination of pregnancy clinics.
* Evidence of audit and research‑based practice.
* Active role in service development.
* Ultrasound experience within gynaecology, specifically early pregnancy.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of all forms of contraception.
* Safeguarding knowledge and experience.
* Experience in budget management.
* Support safe clinical decision‑making in women’s outpatient care.
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential:
* Willingness to perform and learn advanced clinical skills appropriate to practice.
* Ability to manage patients, prioritise workload and manage own caseload within dedicated clinics.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
* Effective team management, negotiation and conflict management skills.
* Motivated, experienced practitioner who can overcome barriers to effective communication.
* Ability to present complex information to patients and relatives sensitively.
* Accurate record‑keeping and knowledge of data protection and Caldicott issues.
* Advocacy for patients at all times.
Desirable:
* Publications and audit experience.
* Advanced clinical assessment skills and clinical audit experience.
* Proof of leadership ability and support for research or clinical trials.
* Independence with inter‑professional working.
* Initiative within established procedures and policy interpretation.
Contract and Salary
* Band 7 – £47,810 to £54,710 a year (pro‑rata).
* Permanent, part‑time.
