Job Details The Child Protection Team in Fife Council is a busy, dynamic, social work team that is responsible for undertaking initial referral discussions, joint investigations and joint investigative interviews of children who may have been victim of abuse or violence. The Team work with children and young people from ages 0 to 18, and their parents and carers. The team will carry out initial social work assessments for children and young people where a new concern of significant risk of harm has been raised by social work, Police or Health. The Team primarily works with families at times of crisis and where there have been incidents of harm, or disclosures of abuse. The Child Protection Team’s priorities are working with children to ensure their voices are heard, their rights are respected, and their safety and well-being is prioritised. The Team aims to work with families to build on strengths, improve outcomes and ensure that risks are managed. The Child Protection Team is made up of eight FTE Social Workers, three Senior Practitioners, a Team Manager and one Social Work Assistant. The team are currently based in Glenrothes but provide a Fife wide service. The role of the social work assistant within the Child Protection Team is to support the social workers and senior practitioners in ensuring the safety of children referred through IRD, and work with families to build on their strengths. This work involves carrying out initial assessments and risk assessments, implementing safety plans with families, and working directly with children and young people. The Person The ideal candidate will Have considerable experience, skills and knowledge of working with children, young people and their families at times of need Have a range of skills to work directly with children and young people to help them be safe and promote recovery Understand the impact and effects of trauma on those they work with, and also secondary or vicarious trauma be creative and empathic in the way they work with children and young people understand the rights of the child and the importance of the child’s voice being heard have an understanding of risk assessment and safety planning have experience of working collaboratively and flexibly within a team, and also with partner agencies. Have good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload Have experience of keeping accurate records and writing assessments Have knowledge and understanding of Child and Adult Protection guidelines and information sharing protocols Have the ability to work throughout Fife. Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
