Job Title: Research Integrity Advisor (Analytics and Intelligence)

Salary: £35,200-£45,700 per annum

Location: Cambridge, UK – Hybrid

Contract: Full time, Permanent, 35 hours per week

Are you passionate about safeguarding research integrity, and using data to uncover the patterns others miss? Help shape the future of research integrity by combining investigation, analytics, and expert judgement in a role with real impact.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world‑leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

Join CUP&As Publishing Ethics and Research Integrity (PERI) team and play a central role in safeguarding trust in global research. Whether you come from a research integrity, publishing, or independent investigative background, this role offers the opportunity to combine expert judgement with data‑driven insight to detect and prevent complex integrity challenges.

About the role

In this role, you will combine investigative expertise with data‑driven insight to uphold research integrity and strengthen publishing practices across a global portfolio.

* Lead and resolve complex research integrity and publication ethics cases, ensuring fair, consistent, and evidence‑based outcomes
* Use data, analytics, and automation to identify patterns, uncover risks, and generate actionable intelligence for investigations and proactive monitoring
* Develop tools and analytical approaches for the teams toolkit, strengthening our ability to detect and respond to integrity issues at scale
* Provide expert advice and guidance to editors, colleagues, and stakeholders to support high‑quality, ethical publishing
* Develop risk, monitoring and auditing (RMA) approaches to proactively identify and mitigate integrity risks across the portfolio

Additional responsibilities and accountabilities

* Contribute to policy, process, and workflow improvements using insights from casework and data analysis
* Build relationships with other data and analytics colleagues, advocating for the PERI teams interests in broader business data and automation conversations.
* Maintain an understanding of key developments in the publishing ethics and research integrity landscape.
* Contribute to working groups and project teams where your expertise is relevant, and manage small projects within the PERI team.
* Collaborate across teams and contribute to training, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives in service of high publishing and research standards.
* If opportunities arise, contribute to the teams thought leadership and meta‑research initiatives.

About you

* You bring a strong combination of investigative judgement, knowledge of publishing, analytical thinking, and a commitment to upholding high standards in research and publishing.
* You have experience handling research integrity, publication ethics, editorial/peer review, or investigative work, with the ability to assess complex and sensitive issues fairly and objectively
* You have strong analytical skills and are confident working with data—able to combine multiple sources to identify patterns and generate robust, evidence‑based insights
* You are naturally curious and detail‑oriented, with a track record of following evidence, asking the right questions, and avoiding premature conclusions
* You communicate clearly and diplomatically, translating complex or technical issues into practical advice for a range of stakeholders
* You hold yourself to high standards of professionalism and integrity, and are comfortable working with ambiguity and difficult or sensitive situations.
* You are well organised, able to manage competing priorities and projects, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team
* You are motivated by improving research integrity and are keen to contribute to policy, process, and continuous improvement initiatives
* You are open to developing or applying analytical tools and approaches to strengthen the teams investigative capabilities

Desired criteria

* Awareness of legal issues impacting publishing ethics and research integrity
* Knowledge and experience working with open‑source integrity data (e.g. OpenAlex, CrossRef, Retraction Watch, Problematic Paper Screener)
* We are particularly interested in candidates with academic expertise in computer science, engineering, physics, or another discipline represented in Cambridges portfolio, and which complements the teams existing expertise (earth/environmental science, political science, biomedical science, history).

Rewards and benefits

* 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
* Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance
* Discretionary annual bonus
* Group personal pension scheme
* Life assurance up to 4 × annual salary
* Green travel schemes
