Overview
Senior Assistant Admin Support Practitioner (Radiotherapy Physics) – full-time, Band 3, based at Derriford Hospital. The post is within the Radiotherapy Planning department and involves providing clerical services for the Radiotherapy Physics section within the Healthcare Science and Technology Directorate. The role requires effective communication, the ability to work under pressure, attention to detail and good IT skills. The successful candidate will interact with patients as they embark on their radiotherapy treatment pathway.
Responsibilities
* To co-ordinate and deliver a comprehensive Admin service to Radiotherapy Physics in an efficient and timely manner. This will primarily include work in the Stereotactic and External Beam Radiotherapy services.
* Working on own initiative and maintaining good communications between the team, patients, carers and other health professionals.
* To contribute to the effective delivery of patient treatment pathways.
* To maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the Trust Code of Practice.
* To work in line with the Trust values and professional policies/codes of conduct.
* To prioritise demand, accommodate unplanned events and work without direct supervision.
Requirements
* Essential
* NVQ level 3 in either business administration or related subject or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Demonstrable experience of delivering a wide range of administrative and secretarial tasks to a high standard in a patient/service focused environment.
* Able to exercise own initiative and prioritise/manage own workload, without direct supervision.
* Well-developed IT skills, able to accurately manage, manipulate and report information in multiple formats (tracker lists/spreadsheets/databases).
Desirable
* Qualified in word processing or typing qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Understanding of Scientific and medical terms.
* Patient management systems demonstrable experience.
Aptitude and Abilities
* High standard of literacy & numeric accuracy.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to people of all ages and types (empathy, compassion).
* Adaptability and the ability to manage unpredictable work demands and interruptions within the routine workday.
* Able to undertake duties at a PC workstation for prolonged periods.
* Excellent attention to detail.
Desirable
* Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances with patients and relatives attending the Plymouth Oncology centre.
* Tactfully and confidentially communicate written and verbal information.
* Able to cope with the sensitive nature of work.
