Job title

Consultant Ecopsychiatrist – CAMHS – Nature-Based Therapy & Research

Department

Medical & Dental: Consultant

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has been rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

We are a responsive and innovative Foundation Trust that places our values of Caring, Safe and Excellent at the heart of everything we do. We take great pride in our staff and believe that investing in you is key to us achieving our vision of outstanding care delivered by outstanding people.

We work with a wide range of partner organisations to deliver care and support to people in their own homes and from a number of hospitals and community bases. We focus on delivering care as close to home as possible.

Job overview

We are recruiting for a part-time Consultant Ecopsychiatrist to join the Marlborough House inpatient CAMHS unit for a one year fixed term contract working one day per week. This is a pivotal new role funded by the Provider Collaborative to support the implementation of nature‑based therapy and lead associated research within the service. Oxford Health is a lead provider of this local network and is pioneering the embedding of nature-based therapy into our patient care.

Working closely with the Marlborough House team, which has an established Families in Nature programme, the role will focus on embedding nature‑based approaches to enhance patient care, staff wellbeing, and environmental responsibility. You will lead a weekly Nature Connectedness Pathway group for young people, collect and analyse routine outcome data, and oversee a quality improvement project in collaboration with the CAMHS Green Prescribing Research Team.

The role also involves supporting patient and family involvement in nature‑focused initiatives, supervising medical students in the development of therapeutic summer programmes, and working in partnership with organisations such as Oxfordshire County Council, National Trails, National Trust, and Fathom Trust to develop innovative, nature‑centred therapeutic models.

Apply now to join us in shaping an innovative model of nature-connected care and help transform how young people experience recovery and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

As our Consultant Ecopsychiatrist, you will support the delivery and development of nature‑based therapeutic practice within the Marlborough House inpatient CAMHS unit. The role involves leading the Nature Connectedness Pathway, supporting young people and staff through outdoor and nature‑based interventions, and contributing senior clinical leadership to service development and governance.

You'll lead on the evaluation and research into nature‑based interventions in collaboration with the CAMHS Green Prescribing Research Team, providing supervision and teaching, and working with partner organisations to develop innovative therapeutic models. The role does not include direct clinical responsibility for patients.

Applicants must hold a CCT and be eligible for appointment as a Consultant Psychiatrist, with recognised expertise or a strong interest in nature‑based interventions and eco‑anxiety. Experience in leading therapeutic and research projects, supervising students, and working collaboratively with external partners is essential.

Please see attached job description for further details on this role.
